Joe Poats is an Advisor at StarBridge Advisors, LLC. Joe is a practically minded and results-oriented healthcare executive with over 30 years of hands-on consulting and provider experience who specializes in highly successful IT-enabled change. He is an expert at improving organizational performance, executive communication/alignment, solution identification, clinician adoption, and establishing strategies for population health technology.
Recent experiences include planning for and directing implementation of a $60 million population health program for a $10 billion health system and developing a digital strategy and implementation plan for the revenue cycle function of a $20 billion provider.
Joe has worked for leading consulting (Accenture, Ernst & Young, PwC) firms in a variety of leadership roles. He led approximately 60 successful design and implementation projects across a variety of technology platforms (Cerner, Epic, GE, etc.) and over 50 strategic planning or selection projects. Joe is best known for planning and integrating people, process, and technology components in design and implementation work. Joe also approximately two years with Dearborn Advisors, focused on helping organizations’ clinicians better adopt and use technologies.
Previously, he spent three years as CIO for Columbus Health where he led implementation of the organization’s first EMR and ERP systems while moving IT services to a SAAS-based environment reducing costs by $6 million and improving customer satisfaction by 30%.
Through CHIME, HIMSS, and other organizations, Joe has presented locally and nationally regarding healthcare information technologies. Joe earned his Master of Business Administration (Operations and Finance) from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill majoring in Chemistry (Analytical).
