He has served as Chief Information Officer at a variety of organizations such as, CHI St. Luke’s Health in Houston, Texas, New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, INTEGRIS Health in Oklahoma City, and Novant Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Avery has conducted successful turnarounds for underperforming IT organizations, partnered with senior leaders to integrate IT plans into corporate strategic plans, and is a respected expert in IT Service Delivery. He is also a trained performance improvement leader with experience implementing LEAN Daily Management in large healthcare organizations, as well as using LEAN Six Sigma to improve clinical, business, and IT operations and putting millions of dollars on the bottom line.
Avery also has experience creating a culture of innovation, organizing innovation centers, working with technology start-ups, creating market-ready products, and partnering with external partners and the community to find innovation ideas that support the key objectives of organizations.
He has successfully led clinical, medical, and business informatics departments as well as business intelligence and analytics to bring higher levels of operational insight to executive teams and clinicians.
Avery is an accomplished speaker and writer having published many articles in a variety of publications throughout his career. He was recognized as a National Top 100 CIO, by ComputerWorld Magazine in 2010, and named CIO of the Year by the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce in 2003.
Avery earned his MBA at Wake Forest University and a degree in Applied Science Business from Rutledge College.
